【明報專訊】暴風雪吹襲歐洲導致陸空交通癱瘓，位於南半球的澳洲    正值夏季，但部分地區周一竟也下起雪來，讓該國民眾可罕有感受白色聖誕的氣氛。

在澳洲東岸的新南威爾士省和維多利亞    省，這個季節一般不會下雪，但受南冰洋吹來的冷風影響，這兩個省部分地區周一卻降雪，積雪更達10厘米厚。在新南威爾士省滑雪勝地夏洛特帕薩一間酒店，酒店經理形容昨早所有地方都鋪滿一層厚厚的白雪，他說這樣的降雪量在12月初並不尋常，因為新南威爾士山區目前應是野花季節的高峰期。「我們期望寒冷天氣持續5天，這樣便可出現白色聖誕。」

至於在維多利亞省南部的霍瑟姆山和布勒山，周日分別有10厘米和5厘米厚的積雪。冷天氣也蔓延到悉尼    ，昨晨當地氣溫也降至13℃，西部地區更跌至9.8℃。

氣象專家指出，澳洲東部各省在12月初出現寒冷天氣，主要是因為冷風從南冰洋深處吹往上方，這種天氣每隔數年會出現一次。
